Permanent Place Director for Liverpool appointed

NHS Cheshire and Merseyside can announce that Mark Bakewell has been appointed as Place Director for Liverpool on a permanent basis.

Mark initially took up the post on an interim basis in February 2023 following the departure of Jan Ledward, who went on to join Liverpool University Hospitals (LUHFT) as Executive Director for Strategy and Partnerships.

Mark, who at the time was NHS Cheshire and Merseyside’s Deputy Director of Finance, has an NHS career spanning over 20 years across multiple organisations in key finance roles.

He joined NHS Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in 2016, and was appointed as Chief Finance and Contracting Officer in 2018, a role that was later extended to cover NHS Knowsley CCG as well.

Graham Urwin, Chief Executive of NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, said:

Information:

“Mark has done a tremendous job over the past 12 months as Interim Place Director for Liverpool, and I am delighted that he will be staying on to support the great work being done locally.

“As is the case across our region, Liverpool has many unique health challenges that require an integrated approach between health and social care providers, so it is great news that Mark will be able to use his knowledge and experience to continue working with partners to improve health outcomes for the local population.”
