NHS trust’s new digital portal puts patients’ health in their hands

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (WUTH) has launched a digital portal to give patients better access to their health information.

The Patient Portal serves as an integrated digital platform through which patients can access and engage with pertinent aspects of their medical records and health-related information – and is easily accessible on their smartphone or device.

The Portal will empower patients by providing them with information about their condition, access to their hospital health records, updates on test results, plus appointment invites and reminders.

This in turn will help reduce the volume of patient enquiries received, which will free up staff time for providing other aspects of care, and lessen the frustrations that patients often feel when waiting for updates on their care.

It will also use push notifications/reminders to help reduce the risk of DNAs (missed appointments and procedures), which will help maximise clinical capacity and reduce waiting times.

Currently, the portal is only operational within select specialties, but will be eventually expanded to cover all patient care.

It will also pave the way for the development of patient-initiated follow-up pathways, with subsequent updates that will introduce additional functionalities, including direct messaging with healthcare teams, appointment rescheduling capabilities, and more.
