NHS Cheshire and Merseyside December 2025 Blog
Tuesday, 16 December 2025
I was delighted to join NHS Cheshire and Merseyside as Interim Chief Executive in November - appointed by our new Chair to lead our organisation at a time of significant change and financial challenge.
A cancer nurse by background, and having held a number of senior executive positions at hospital trusts within the region and elsewhere in the country, I have seen first-hand both the immense dedication of our workforce and the pressures facing health and care colleagues today.
I am acutely aware of the scale of the financial recovery required, and how vital it is that we work collaboratively with partners right across our system to support staff, sustain services and improve outcomes.
It will not have escaped your notice that we are at a particularly challenging moment as we prepare for a period of industrial action ahead of the busy Christmas period.
As NHS staff continue to manage increasing demand during what is traditionally our most pressurised time of year, support from members of the public will be more important than ever.
Please continue to use NHS services appropriately and contact NHS 111 if you’re unsure where to go for help – it is available 24/7 and can guide you to the right care.
With hospitalisations rising due to flu and COVID-19, getting your winter vaccinations if you are eligible remains one of the best ways you can protect yourself and your loved ones during the festive period.
I wish you and your families a safe and happy Christmas and New Year, and would like to say a big 'thank you' to all health and social care staff working during the holidays.
Best wishes,
Liz Bishop
