NHS Cheshire and Merseyside celebrates regional finalists in 2025 HSJ Awards

NHS organisations, partners and leaders across Cheshire and Merseyside are celebrating after being named as finalists for the prestigious HSJ Awards, recognising outstanding contributions to health and care.

The HSJ Awards are among the most respected accolades in the health sector, highlighting best practice, innovation, and compassionate care across the NHS and its partners. 

This year, the Cheshire and Merseyside region has achieved national recognition in nine different categories, reflecting the depth and diversity of excellence in the region.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been shortlisted for Acute Sector Innovation of the Year for its Liverpool Metastatic Bone Service (LiMBS), a pioneering initiative transforming care for patients with metastatic bone disease.

Lynn Hughes, Deputy Divisional Director for Urgent Care at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, has been nominated for Clinical Leader of the Year in recognition of her outstanding leadership and dedication to improving patient care.

A collaboration between Boehringer-Ingelheim, Inspira Health, The Care Lab, Widnes PCN, Widnes Highfield Health, and NHS Trusts has been shortlisted for HSJ Partnership of the Year for their Cardio-Renal-Metabolic Quality Improvement Programme, which is delivering meaningful change for patients with long-term conditions in Widnes.

Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust has been recognised in the Innovation and Improvement in Reducing Healthcare Inequalities Award category for ourPlace – a dedicated sexual health clinic for young people in Wirral.

The Warrington Together partnership has been nominated for Integrated Care Initiative of the Year for its Living Well in Warrington programme, a local system approach to prevention and early intervention in community health.

Cheshire and Merseyside Provider Collaborative and NHS Cheshire and Merseyside appear as nominees for the Medicines, Pharmacy and Prescribing Initiative of the Year for their system-wide medicines optimisation project, which offers a blueprint for unified medicines optimisation across the region.

Brownlow Health has been shortlisted for the NHS Race Equality Award for its dedicated Refugee and Asylum Clinic, providing care to some of the region’s most vulnerable populations.

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust has been recognised in the Reducing Inequalities and Improving Outcomes for Children and Young People Award category for its Mental Health Teams in Schools initiative, supporting young people’s mental health through early detection and prevention in primary and secondary schools.

Finally, Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has been nominated for Trust of the Year, recognising its continued excellence in patient-centric paediatric care and driving innovation.

Winners will be announced at the HSJ Awards ceremony in London on 20 November.
