Wednesday, 17 September 2025

NHS organisations across Cheshire and Merseyside have gained national recognition at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2025.
Seven trusts across the region were shortlisted for awards, some within multiple categories, with one winner and one high commendation being announced at the event held in Manchester on 15 September.
The awards showcase key initiatives and innovations in patient safety from the past year, while recognising and celebrating the hard-working individuals and teams within the NHS who strive to improve patient safety and deliver the best patient care.
Today (17 September) also marks World Patient Safety Day – an annual awareness event led by the World Health Organisation, aiming to improve patient safety.
Success came in the category of ‘Best Use of Integrated Care and Partnership Working in Patient Safety Award’ – awarded to the Northwest Kidney Network, Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System and Liverpool University Hospitals Group and Cheshire and Merseyside Biochemistry Network - Core Kidney Initiative.
Meanwhile, Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance, NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board and Cheshire and Merseyside Women's Health and Maternity Partnership received High Commendation in the Maternity and Midwifery Services Initiative of the Year for their work around Smoking in Pregnancy (SiP).
