Celebrating a major Anchor Institute milestone
Thursday, 2 April 2026
Last week marked an important milestone for the Cheshire and Merseyside Anchor Institute, as we celebrated 50 organisations signing up to the Anchor Framework. This achievement reflects the growing commitment across our region to harness the power of anchor institutions in reducing inequalities, improving population health, and strengthening our local communities.
The event held on 24 March brought together partners from across the NHS, local government, public health, employment services, the voluntary sector, and beyond. Attendees had the opportunity to connect, share learning, and explore how we can collectively create greater social, economic, and environmental value.
The programme featured a series of short talks and discussions focusing on:
- The vision and future direction of the Anchors programme
- How we measure and maximise social value across the system
- The pivotal role of local government, public health, and the NHS as anchor institutions
- Skills sharing, collaboration, and workforce opportunities
- An open panel discussion and networking session
Our speakers offered inspiring insights into the next steps for the Anchor approach – from skills sharing and greener ways of working to compassionate, forward‑looking leadership. Their contributions reinforced our shared determination to drive this work forward.
Dave Sweeney, Associate Director of Sustainability and Partnerships said:
“Reaching 50 organisations is a proud moment for us and a real credit to our small but dedicated sustainability team. Their hard work, along with the commitment of partners across the region, shows what we can achieve together.
“We’re excited by the momentum building across Cheshire and Merseyside and are committed to continuing to build on this great work.”
